After hitting an 8-year-old girl on a bicycle with his car, Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, police arrested a 33-year-old male driver for aggravated assault by motor vehicle and leaving the scene of the accident, according to Philly.com.
The man allegedly left the girl bleeding and seriously injured after he struck her with his red Nissan. However, eyewitnesses' were able to catch the last four numbers of his license plate. Police apprehended the 33 year old, who lives on the 7200 block of Walnut Street.
The car accident occurred at around 5:30 p.m. Law enforcement officials were driving around in the area in response to complaints that cars had been driving through stop signs and speeding. At the time of the accident, police officers heard the screeching of tires and saw the man's Nissan drive through the stop sign.
The young victim was taken to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and was listed in serious condition. Although she has a compound fracture in her leg, she is expected to recover, according to the news source.
Philly.com also reported that inside the driver's vehicle were "several empty" bags that allegedly contained heroine. Investigators are still awaiting the results of a drug test that was administered to the suspect. After the 33-year-old man was arrested, he was taken to Delaware County Prison because he was unable to post the $200,000 bail authorities had set.
